Do these come in upside down for everyone? Last photo is "before", but after the white was done. I give myself a "6.5" out of 10 thus far. Some 2 part poly came up when the tape was pulled. I can fix that, but later. I can work this up to a 7.75 with 320 grit, a little more paint & a buffing once it's fully cured. Everyone thinks the paint job is incredible, but I see all the flaws.

I still have to get a finish coat of lighter gray on the deck and we're done for now, start hammering hardware back on, step the mast and get moving. Now we're into mechanical and electrical, putting down all new deck hardware & the windlass. Got a 44# Rocna and a FX-37 Fortress, 400' of 3 strand and 150' of 5/16 GR chain. And putting the cabin back together.

I want to get out of here by Septober, down to around Maryland to hang and run back and forth as necessary, then decide whether to do the big jump or continue down the ditch. The Bahamas don't want Americans for the foreseeable future, so we have to work around that.

Actually, they were posted right side up from my Iphone and for some reason show as upside down on here (always), but if you click on them they go right side up again. Go figure.

Even the original gelcoat from the factory had flaws in it that you would notice if you looked closely. So you will likely get used to it. I think it looks good from the pictures.
I guess it is a matter of what you like, but I hated my time on the ICW doing any my coastal trips. The power boats were obnoxious--and even dangerous, it was damn near impossible to make 50 miles a day because of the bridge schedules. The water is basically an open sewer (I travelled and swam for a few years in Central American harbors and never had a problem), but got dysentery diving my prop in the Florida ICW. The scenery, with some exception, is viewing some strip malls and double wides. And running aground is a daily occurrence no matter how much you pay attention. Some folks seem to love it. I think some folks like the marina life. Each to his or her own preference.

Well, suh! We're going with the original patina as advised on Antiques Roadshow. The hell with it. Picked up 200' of 18-2 to rewire the mast (hopefully that's right) and some more Epifanes thinner to finish this off and paint the pedestal (white). Wife said, before leaving for the beach, that there's a Defender shipment in at the house as well. I ordered a Lewmar 16 ST for the port side coach roof to handle the main sheet and a pile of other goodies. The "Defender 1st" membership already saved me a couple hundred bucks. Now I got to find stanchion blocks for the furling gear and a ratchet block for the aft end.

I think 18/2 is small for wiring the mast. I realize that LED's do not draw much amperage, but I think that your chance of blowing a wire inside the mast is quite high in the event of a short with wire that small. I also wonder about voltage drop. Just responding to your unasked question.

16-2? O.K. I got to go look at Calder's book. Therein lies the trouble with providing shopping carts at Hamilton Marine. I have 200' of 18-2 and probably need heavier. Luckily my discount and liberal return policies will save the day. I was thinking in terms of 120V and utilizing 14-2 for overhead lights from the switches, etc. But the long runs and so forth.

WAIT! Text Bert, my 12V buddy. I'll get the correct answer.

Ordered Isotherm air cooled evap system for 7cf conversion yesterday. And another big stainless Wichard padeye for the mainsheet to the new companionway self tailer. Defender has been getting me stuff almost overnight. Harken furling block set showed up yesterday. Pricey, but outside stanchions and carbo ratchet block for back by the cockpit.

Maybe a new inflatable hb dinghy. Offshore liferaft valise. Solar panels. Bimini/mount for panels. Side curtains (and no seeum screening). And my Cape Horn gear. Then we rock.

That contrast with the white looks absolutely magnificent. It's going to be a very sharp looking deck when you are finished!

That's just the darker primer. The deck is now much lighter grey. THAT was severely hot underfoot.

All buttoned up for the impending tropical deluge. Working instead of playing boat refit for the week. I AM going to go look at that Dragonfly down to SW Harbor if I get a chance.

Hey Maine,

Was your existing deck painted or gelcoat? If painted, did you sand all of the old paint off down to gelocoat or just sand it smooth to accept the primer/paint. If you had voids or damage to repair, what did you use? Heading down the same path. Considering Perfection (existing) and Alexseal

Thanks
