My leaking throttle shaft did not end well. I attempted to remove the nut holding the control arm to the shaft and I snapped the end of the shaft off. Handed the nut with it's part of the shaft to the Admiral and said "There's $1000 in your hand."
Pulled the whole injection pump out and had it serviced. Yep, right at $1000 to get it back.
Per my original post, here's a photo of the raw water pump bearing once I got it out of the pump. Yep, missing a couple of ball bearings.
