Has anybody made or bought one of these? How well do they work?

We have made two and would do it again. I like dropping the main and then just zip it up. Sailrite has very good instructions.

Did you use their kit, or just buy the materials?

I used the kit from Sailrite. Made a couple of minor changes in their design and added retractable lazy jacks. Very happy with the set up.

We made it straight from the SailRite kit and it turned out fine. They suggest somewhere using battens instead of PVC pipe (which we used) and I suspect the battens would do a better job of keeping it straight...but I'm not unhappy with what we have at all. Also, I'm not a great seamstress and it did take something stronger than my $50 Singer to finish where there were several layers to sew through.

Yes we used their materials but it was a little close on the sunbrella, not much room for mistakes. I added extra lazyjack attachments because I don’t use a topping lift to tie the end up.

I really like the idea and the ease of sail-paks, but just can't get by all the stuff hanging on the bottom of the sail. I do think the battens looks better than the snagging PVC pipes.

How easy are the Sail Packs to remove? Guess the lazy jacks would take some effort. We cruise south for the winter and club race in the summer. I could see using them in the winter and removing them in the summer.

Mine doesn’t take much longer than a traditional sail cover to put on or take off.
