I'm putting in an 1800W inverter charger. All the wiring documentation show running the 2/0 12v cables to the house battery, but with two banks wonder if I should run the positive to the battery selector instead and the negative to the battery isolator?

You can set these up many different ways, find a schematic of what you are looking at. We can help with it. On your question, you can tie to one battery and when the battery select switch is on "Both" the positive terminals are tied together. With the inverter on, you should be using both. You'll need safety devices for the inverter, coming off a battery.

Good point on the tie, thanks! I'm surprised that the recommended cables are so thick, 2/0 up to 5 ft for the 12v +/- and 1/0 for the chassis ground. I'm glad I don't have to work those onto the battery selector. I need to find a 250 amp fuse that goes inline close to the battery in the 12v +.

Use MRBF Blue seas ( I think )marine rated battery fuse, fits on the battery terminal and the cable attaches to it, I have them on my main and engine batteries.neat and tidy.

Thanks for the tip! Very cool! I saw one that adds an extra terminal too.

O.K. After spending the weekend stripping skin from my knuckles doing the rudder rebuild dance, I glanced at your web page. You are now, officially, my T37 Hero. I feel a LOT better with the guts of my '79 after killing an hour zooming in on the work ahead of you. I'm too old to go that far anymore.

LOL! Thanks? Yes, I have no shortage of future post material. On the bright side, I will probably know more about big sailboats than most owners once I get mine in the water.

That's the key to doing this. You know every thru hull, every valve, every wire run. I'll spend 30 minutes sitting and staring at something before I start cutting, wrenching, installing, etc. I started years ago with the first iteration of Casey's "This Old Boat" book about the same time it came out. Early 90's. Did a Bristol 35 Yawl over ("Hinckleyized" it), a 21' Whaler Rampage, a Pearson 10M, a True World Moonie 28 and a Uniflite Navy Utility 50 (Maine Lobster Boatized with a tuna tower). Now doing the T37.
