Would anyone out there has an old dodger cover that I could use as a pattern. I have the frames and got a quote of $12000 to provide dodger and bimini covers with side curtains. Too much money for me. Hopefully someone can help me out. The dodger is more important for now and later I could get someone to do the rest. Thanks

The boss is ordering the Sailrite zig zag machine. I don't have a bimini and their methods and supplies look pretty straightforward, but I'll bet Sunbrella, stainless and various parts can be found for way less money. Thing was, I looked at Sailrite around 12-15 years ago and concluded severely overpriced, top dollar retail for everything. Probably $12,000 for dodger, bimini, frames and full cockpit enclosure is in a realistic ballpark, but I'd rather have a new engine.

Several years ago I splurged and boat the Sailrite straight stitch machine. Pricey at the time but very happy with it. Have made a dodger, bimini, full cockpit enclosure, stackpack mainsail cover and redid all the interior cushions. Well worth the initial investment. Don't even want to think about what it would have cost to have all that made. Had done no sewing before. Was tempted to get the zigzag for sail repair. But decided to leave that to the experts.

Are you kidding? $12K or $1200? You need to see another canvas place. I had my dodger frame recovered for $1500 with sunbrella off the original pattern at a local shop. Would cost more for the frame and an original design, but not 10X.

That's what I thought at first, but that's the state of things these days, so I wasn't overly surprised. And why I figure getting the Sailrite mooring set, er, sewing machine, would be a good idea. Ever heft one of those things?

We had a new dodger and Bimini with new frames and grab handles, full enclosure and cockpit cushions made last season and it came in close to 11k Canadian dollars.

A new dodger, using old frame was $1,200 total last year. One shop was twice as much, shop around.

And there's your $12K. Very nice. I'd be sincerely into no-seeum screening. Got off the IC-24 yesterday after the Pillsbury Sound race and got eaten alive on the beach. I think these wads of sargassum have something to do with it. Now I just hurt from playing main and spin trimmer for the afternoon after an 8 year hiatus. Although i realized how much I missed that dynamo hum when those things get surfing.

I have a sailrite machine BUT if I were doing it again, I would buy their new straight stitch machine that has a longer neck. Most of our work is canvas ,not sails, and a deeper throated machine would make a lot of jobs easier.

Someone here in the V.I. is offering us a Sailright "beige coloured" machine which I believe is straight stitch. I wonder if that's the one you're talking about. Seems like the other straight stitch was red and the zig zag blue.
