Public Service Announcement: don't over tighten the bleed screw on the fuel filter!

I decided to change the filter mounted on my W50. After the change I bled the fuel from the point on the filter housing. When I went to tighten it back on....it stripped. :( This was going to be my first attempt at bleeding the engine. Oh well, live and learn.

Anyways, I just ordered part # 19509 Fuel Filter-Complete from crowleys.com. About $85 bucks before shipping. According to what I found online, that's the new part # for what was # 14777.

Anyone done this swap over before? Any advice?

With strip treads on the clean side...BE VERY CAREFUL OF LOOSE METAL FROM THE TREADS.

New filter complete installed. Even replaced a high pressure line (the shiny one), that I found had a crack. Diesel bled on first try! Success!

Congratulations! I am days away from getting chin deep in similar projects. Starting with dropping the mast, soda blasting the bottom and attempting to recover the former glory of nearly 40 year old dark blue gelcoat. She'll look good from . . . 17' away.
