Mine are from a previous owner, but I'm not really happy with them. Just to give you something to look out for:
If your stern pulpit is weakish like ours (I think mainly because the railing was removed at the swim ladder to make entry from the ladder easier), you'll need to figure out some way to shore things up (given that your davits are using it as part of the support). When I try to lift my lightish Portabote (75 lbs) with my lightish outboard (55 lbs) on it, I can see the supports of the dinghy that are at the stern visibly flex/push the stern in (like oil canning). So, I don't lift it this way (we have to take the motor off every time), which stinks because that's what I would like to use them for while at anchor/mooring to keep growth off the bottom.

I think if the stern railing was stronger, this might not happen. I'm thinking of adding stainless "straps" like I've seen on other boats that go from the stern rail to the cockpit coaming. Or, maybe larger (area wise) support feet/backing plates where the davits are supported on the stern would help.

While we're on this, anyone had something like this happen/solved it? Seeing the stern flex in like that is unsettling and makes me wonder of the strength of things back there.

I'm interested in also maybe redoing the davits all together. Any other pitfalls anyone has seen that I or Sea Nymph need to watch for?

Here are pics of the set up. I don't even know what brand they are or anything about them.

I had thought of trying the main halyard the way you suggest but hadn't done it yet. Will definitely give that a try. Hadn't thought about the life lines and mine are not tight. Going to try that too.

Thinking of not needing to clean the bottom of the dink every week or two makes me smile Smile

Atkins and Hoyle in Ontario Canada have some interesting davits and stern arches. i am discussing a custom made arch/hard bimini and davit configuration. Great exchange rates for American cousins.Been in business a long time. #337
