Fabricating grip sleeve for winch handle

I'm trying to save a winch handle with most of the plastic sleeve 'grip' missing/broken, and am wondering how others might have formed a new rotating sleeve over the metal winch handle.

I'm thinking of using heat activated polymorph thermal beads for the handle, anyone else address this project? Do you know of any materials that come preformed in a tube that I can simply heat-shrink over the handle stock?

The grip needs to spin. Check eBay for some used winch handles, I sold a pair on there a year ago. If you buy checkout the Lewmar one hand release, might be the best thing I ever bought for the T37.

I agree, that one-hand lock and release is pretty darn slick and I'll probably purchase one in the near future, I just hate to send another item to the landfill that I might be able to salvage and use as a back-up or spare. I planned to wrap the grip shaft in a thin material (paper or clay) that could be dissolved after the molded plastic grip hardened to allow clearance to freely rotate. After further consideration I think I'll put this project on the back burner and purchase a Lewmar, too many other more important things to get done first. Will post photos or video if I ever get around to it. Thanks.
