Yes, similar, new installation (in the last couple of years). Plastic cover pipe up backstay (can't have any backstay adjustment). I guess my "bouncing" the backstay and the obvious potential for much harder "bouncing" in heavy weather was my concern. Do that a few thousand times and something has to give. I just did a quick search and confirmed my suspicions. Others have had the same concerns long before me. I think I'd take it down, put it on a pipe off the transom well above the cockpit and passengers. Just me. There may be absolutely nothing wrong with the backstay mount, but a 24" dome will easily be throwing its weight around in a headsea. I saw one come crashing down on the forward side of the mast on a brand spanky new Jeanneau 54DS. It shattered on the deck. Just missed a guy on the foredeck. If it had hit him . . . heavy units.
