First purge the old name from the boat, make certain to look everywhere. Don't bring anything aboard with the new name till after renaming. Some will write the old boat's name on paper, place in a wooden box and burn. Then collect the ashes and throw into the sea. Then have the renaming ceremonies, be certain to address his all mighty King Neptune or Poseidon directly, whoever your sea god is. Follow with with plenty of libations, one must be champagne. I'm pretty superstitious about boats, but not much in my regular life. I have a couple of others, some most have never heard of. No bananas on fishing trips, not even the peels. Don't start a trip on Friday or the first Monday of April. This one I'm very strong about, is don't cook spaghetti while underway, other pastas ok. I have had one boat stop stone cold in the middle of the bay after running for 18 hours and had one start to sink both while the spaghetti was boiling. Also had an old sea capt tell me the same superstition, when we were talking about a guy who lost his boat in the bay...while cooking spaghetti.
Now enjoy your new boat.
