Spring is not far away, also the Defender spring sale. I have never had to repaint the bottom,it has/had plenty of ablative and a pressure wash each year has been good enough. Planning a full bottom job this year, how far does a gallon go ??
If I can get the bottom clean and bare I plan to put on a couple of coats of Interprotect 2000 first. Can anybody give me a clue about coverage rates so I can get my supplies on March 27 [sale starts]
Thanks a lot, Bruce.

Good day: I painted this past summer (God it was hot!) with "Super Ship Bottom" paint, layin' it on as liberally as I could. Used just shy of a gallon each coat.

Yep, it takes under two gallons for two coats of antifouling, no matter if it's ablative or hard. The Interprotect will take maybe 5 gallons if my memory serves. With this, it's more important to build up the film thickness and this will vary on application methods, temperatures etc.

I have had good success with SuperShip Bottom although last time I went with the Pettit Eco to try it out for being environmentally friendly.........................I'm going back to SuperShip Bottom!
I have also had good success with Trinidad, but that's a hard paint and you'll get build up with that.

Hello !
It takes about one gallon of Pettite Horizons ablative paint per coat; usually one coat per season here. Fooling is not very bad as the weater is quite cold all the summer.

Did 2 coats before leaving for one year sabbatical on east coast and Bahamas and it was still effective at our return to home port afrer more than 5000 miles.
Should have painted the prop too; had to scape off barnacles of the maxprop few times in one year. At one time the blades were almost all covered by barnacles.

Have a great spring !

We put three and a half gallons of BottomKote NT on Impetuous. Why a half? When UPS delivered the paint, the driver said he thought one of the cans was open. Yeah, You could smell the paint. One of the gallon cans had fallen down and broke the cardboard, the styrofoam packing and dented the top enough to cause a leak. We took pictures of the unopened box and a series of pictures while opening the box. When we called Defender about it, the answer was "No problem. We'll ship you another gallon today." Didn't even need the pictures.

The guys at the boatyard said they would apply the three gallons and put whatever they could get out of the fourth can onto the bow area where the most wear occurs.

In our waters, BottomKote NT works great. Very very few barnacles and the soft growths just wipe off. The prop is a completely different story, tho. It is covered in barnacles after about 3 months. I've heard about Pettit Zinc Coat Barnacle Barrier 1792 but haven't seen a prop that it was used on yet.
