We put three and a half gallons of BottomKote NT on Impetuous. Why a half? When UPS delivered the paint, the driver said he thought one of the cans was open. Yeah, You could smell the paint. One of the gallon cans had fallen down and broke the cardboard, the styrofoam packing and dented the top enough to cause a leak. We took pictures of the unopened box and a series of pictures while opening the box. When we called Defender about it, the answer was "No problem. We'll ship you another gallon today." Didn't even need the pictures.
The guys at the boatyard said they would apply the three gallons and put whatever they could get out of the fourth can onto the bow area where the most wear occurs.
In our waters, BottomKote NT works great. Very very few barnacles and the soft growths just wipe off. The prop is a completely different story, tho. It is covered in barnacles after about 3 months. I've heard about Pettit Zinc Coat Barnacle Barrier 1792 but haven't seen a prop that it was used on yet.
