I have read several places the difficulty in removing the headliner in the head area. I am probably going to have to do this and I am wondering what would be the down side of cutting the liner flush with the wall in the "problem area" around the mast? Not removing all that trim seems like a good idea. I'm thinking of using the Sonicrafter oscillating saw.

Some slick teak trim would aid in reinstall with no one, but you lucky readers, to the wiser...

Any thoughts?

It is indeed a nasty affair! Seems to me, if I remember correctly, that the headliner is one piece that goes from port (head area) to starboard (salon area) which means that it is nearly impossible to remove in one piece. I cut mine at the top of the head door trim using multiple passes with my utility knife. Now, you'l need to remove the entire door/trim/jamb assembly for the head doors, which is really straight forward. The head liner is held up with perimeter screws that are covered by trim. You will need to be meticulous removing the teak bungs on the trim to remove and the little collar around the mast can stay in place, or at least I was able to persuade the headliner out without removal.
Once down, I was able to insulate the coach roof with 1/2" rigid insulation for heat retention/gain. Somewhere I have pictures, but can't locate immediately..............

I'll be watching this....I started to take down my salon ceiling, took dow the two opposing the hatch, but the one at the mast thwarted me. I wasn't ready for that (another) big a project at that moment. But I want to insulate...

Hey Jeff, I'm from Sandusky, have spent a great deal of time in Port Clinton (working mostly). Catawba Island, Marblehead...Love it there. I'm new to T37's (bought mine in '11, been on the hard working on her since). But when I get that way I'd love to come see your baby...I'm on the Chesapeake at the moment, deciding about where to winter...

I am "going in" for a closer look this weekend. Not overly excited about having to do this it sounds like a royal PITA. Will update later.

It would be a good trip for you - there are 2 other T37's in the same marina.
