Cleaning my (white) fenders

I finally have discovered how to get those ugly black blotches off my once white inflatable fenders. Very Happy

See the attached image of a fender cleaned on the left and as it was on the right

How?

1) First wear only clothing you do not want to wear again

2) Mix 1 cup Baking Soda (cheap at the hardware store) with 1 cup of extra strength Chlorox in a glass or plastic container

3) Using a cheap paint brush, 'paint' this paste liberally on the fender. Leave it somewhere where no one will touch it for at least 8 hours.

4) after 8 hours rinse with lots of water. The results are unbelievable. Cheers

I had tried everything from mineral spirits to scrub&shine nothing has worked until this

Then cover with something like sunbrella Cool

Sunbrella is not very good with abrasion for fender covers. Don't ask me how I know. My best covers so far have been simply heavy canvas. Worst looking the fastest were terry cloth. Some stretch fabric I tried once worked ok but was not easy to sew with my limited skill set. The nicest looking were made from material from some tan chinos I was throwing out and they lasted almost 3 seasons. Thanks for the tip about cleaning those things, I have some old fenders I need to try it out on. Ciao for now ...

Another fender cover source is peruse the local thrift stores for plus size sweat pants and cut off the legs. You can usually get a pair for a couple of bucks. The elastic cuffs help them hold them in place. When they get to nasty you just throw them out and go shopping again.

good point about the sunbrella...I consulted the admiral and she informed me she used fleece. Anyway, I like the plus size sweat pant idea Smile
