Yeah, Bluebonnets are the state flower of Texas. They grow prolifically along the state roads due mainly to Lady Bird Johnson, Lyndon Johnson's wife. She led an effort to beautify not just Texas' highways but nationwide highways. She was instrumental in getting the Highway Beautification Act passed. You should see local flowers along your roads in the Chesapeake area as a part of the act.
So when you visit Texas in the springtime, you'll notice the highways are not mowed at all. This lets the native plants bloom, seed and die off to rebloom next year.
