I'm replacing the main halyard on my boat. The Tartan Manual specifies 3/8" line size. My boat currently has 1/2" line. What is everyone using?

I just replaced running rigging (halyards) with 7/16" New England Sta Set X.

I used 7/16 ths when I replaced it, but I wish I had used 3/8ths. You only care that it does not stretch and the new materials don't.
