I just started the Wednesday night club races, and we are doing very well. Now the club is questioning our PHRF rating. US sailing shows the Tartan 37-1-cb as a 171 for an average. Can anyone confirm this rating?

The PHRF rating can vary depending on where you sail. I have a 1984 tartan which I race on Lake Michigan. Its rating is 144 for jib and main.

Your boat is NOT a Tartan 37-1, its a 37-2 in the PHRF rating world Cheers

Wow! Here is San Francisco we rate a 126 or 128 with our equipment. No wonder you're doing well.

You are absolutely right, mine is a T37-2. The ratings for the T37-1 is much higher. Because the handicap varies from place to place, I would suggest that you submit your measurements to the PHRF committee for your region, and let them determine your handicap.

Thanks everyone for replying so promptly way back when I posted. I'm afraid I was looking for replys in the wrong place and assumed no one was replying. Now that I've figured our web site out, I will try to keep up better.

In the Chesapeake Bay we rate 150 Non-Spin with folding prop and a 150% roller furling. We just took second in the Non-Spin class this past weekend in the Black Seal Cup in Hampton Va.
