Running Lines To Cockpit

Our T37 only has two lines running back from the mast to the cockpit. One is the center board line, the other, if memory serves me, is for the vang or outhaul, not sure. Right now we have to climb up on the coach roof to raise and lower the main.

I know it's probably just a couple of new blocks, clutches and a longer main halyard, but how much more winch will I need over what's there now for the center board?

On Esprit, the winch on the starboard side of the companion way is the centerboard. The line on the port side is the main sheet. The traveler controls run on either side of the dodger panel. I have to go on deck to hoist, stow and reef the main. I have seen others with the option of lines fed to the cockpit but I don’t think they are any better. I think simple is the best way to go. Just my opinion.

For the two of us it comes down to a safety issue whe raising and lowering the main. Having at least the main halyard run to the cockpit would meaness time on deck. Whe the time comes to reef the main, no way out of going on deck, but we will install jack lines. Granny bars are another safety option we're looking at.
