Way cool info y'all.
Thanks.
Our 1978 Tartan38 svHajime has been in MX since late 2012, repowered in 2013 with a Beta30 still our gem. It's time to install an new cockpit sole and since I have to remove the steering to do this, thinking of replacing the idler and chain/cables.
In 2012 we had some weather heading north from San Francisco and at the first stop Fort Bragg / Noyo River and when I looked in the aft lazaret I found the boat had made gold dust for us!
One sheave had decided not to rotate on the brass pins (not sure why brass pins and bronze sheaves and carbon steel idler structure , but what the heck), attached are some photos of the assembly and pieces and parts. We have been keeping an eye on it ever since and plan to replace the idler assembly with the Edson - EDS 776AL-4AL from Fishery Supplies, looks like it might come in around $425:
