Having just purchased the boat a month ago, we did our first crossing of Lake Michigan this week and had the chance to pull out our Asym.

Quite the site to see, it was pure bliss ghosting downwind at 5knts.

Dave, did you tack it behind the roller furler ? or on one of the cleats on either side ?
no bowsprit ?

We attached ours to the cleat on the opposite side of the hull and then have a small bridle to attach the tack to the furled genoa. It allowed for some movement which ate up the puffs and prevented the sail from getting wrapped up on the wrong side of the furled head sail.

It worked pretty well!

The cruising chute is handy with the sock launcher. We use it when short-handed or racing in cruising class with a 1/2 the spinnaker penalty (no pole / tacked to deck). We ran most of the night at over 7 knots and got first place in our division in the Tampa Bay to Ft Myers race last year. (We dropped out in Venice this year - no wind).

Here is a pic of the sym chute on a Thursday night race.

Nice photo! We had three on board. The sock got hung up a few times on the clew a few times, but we practiced hoisting and dousing it a few times and got the hang of it pretty quickly. Such a nice addition to the sail inventory!

We set our tack line under the anchor roller, then to a cleat. Works great and gets it out further forward, away from the drum.

We fly our asym from a ATN Tacker. Keeps the tack right at the centerline of the boat, and allows for easy trim with the downhaul. We tack the sail in front of the headstay, and the tacker rotates easily around the furled headsail.

I run the downhaul back to the cockpit so I can adjust the tack from there.

Thanks for posting the link to the ATN Tacker. I have one that came with my boat this summer and haven't used it yet. I was looking it over this week and contemplating on how to rig it correctly. Now I know.

Thanks,

Ward
