Here is a short video of a recent evening sail out of our home port of St. Helens Oregon. Low water levels, many sand bars, flakey depth sounder lead to caution close to shore. Good to have several years of local knowledge!

Very nice Jay ! Was it made with a auto-tracking quad copter ? It looks like you were busy with all that tacking.

Thanks, Dave. Video was shot from a high-end quad drone. The operator was ashore on Sand Island, and at times was over a mile distant. Difficult flying conditions, as the winds were 20+ knots. And tacking? That's what we do here on the Columbia. The wind typically comes straight up the river, and Betty Lou goes from bank to bank every two and a half minutes. In this video we were short tacking along one side of Sand Island where the channel is about half as wide. We probably did 30 tacks/gybes in the hour we were filming.

Tacking up a river with a full fin keel... Now that's very Tartan of you! Must have had eyes locked on the depth sounder.

Love the quad footage. I'm working up to that but can't justify the purchase until I get handier with editing vids. Getting a tool to collect more video to sit on my hard drive in an unwatchable state... well no point. (Also waiting for some advancements in the tech)

But that was great inspiration for the quest... thanks! Tartan Tartan Cheers
