New user looking for information

I am a new user who is thinking of purchasing a Tartan 37. I owned a Cheoy Lee Clipper 33 for 25 years and hope to use the Tartan in my retirement. Several questions that I have been unable to find answers for with searches. What is the ballast made of in the center board version? Lead I would guess but from this site there appears to be steel plates on each side of the Centerboard. What is the centerboard made of? How does the centerboard lower and raise and does it lock in place? Thanks for any information you might care to share.

The centerboard has an iron core and encased in fiberglass. It is mainly weighted enough to lower via gravity and not for stability. It does not lock into place and uses a pennant of low stretch line such as Sta-Set. This pennant should be replaced every other or third year just to be on the safe side. In eleven years of owning the boat, the pennant has not been a problem. The T-37's do not need the centerboard to sail, just to point higher.
