My new T37 has some squishy deck issues and the article here on repairs was very informative. However, I think I'll probably leave it to the experts to repair for me. Deck finish work, particularly with matching non skid can be quite intimidating.

I also have a problem with the centerboard being very loose and when dropped, seems to go too far forward and had mangled the fiberglass at the forward bottom section of the keel. It's all broken apart and needs repair.

Are there any articles anywhere on repairing the keel? I assume it will need to be dropped, the glass ground out to find the pin, and the pin replaced. I'm also thinking the hole in the board has probably elongated and will need to be repaired somehow.

The boat is a 1983 Keel/CB model.

Thanks,

Tom

Tom,
Congrats on your new boat..... Cheers
The centerboards do extend too far forward and to keep this from occurring in the future, simply mark the pennant with electrical tape when the board is at the right angle, say about 10 degrees angled back so if it grounds it swings up. Put the tape on the line where it goes through a block or that pad-eye on the coaming and when you use the board simply lower it until you reach your tape.
The area of fiberglass that you say is mangled, should be an easy fix and there is a hollow area above it so the "head" of the centerboard has room to swing up. Your pin should be checked for corrosion and replace if necessary. Tartan still sells a replcement, but a good local welder familiar with marine stainless should be fine for duplication. The board has two bronze plates where the pin goes through and I would be doubtful that this has elongated because it also goes through 1 1/2" of solid fiberglass at that point as well. There is a fair amount of slop in the board and for the most part, nothing to worry about just take a good, close examination.....
Hope this helps,
Tom
