Hello, I currently sail a Thistle but dream of bigger boats (of course). There is a T 37 near us that isn't perfect but is affordable. Maybe. It has been re-powered with a Volkswagen Pathfinder engine. See my post under "engine maintenance". Any suggestions as to the appropriateness of that powerplant for a T-37 would be appreciated. Mostly, is the VW considered serviceable; or should it be replaced asap with something else? Thanks.

I haven't heard of a VW in a T-37 before and don't know anything about them. Thirty three to 40 hp seems to move the boats along well enough so if it's in that range and in sevicable condition it would probably be just fine.
You might want to check into parts availability but I wouldn't rush out and replace an engine that's working fine.

BTW, when we used to race a Lido 14 we thought a Thistle WAS a big boat what with that plumb bow and all. I guess it's all relative. Very Happy

Good luck with your shopping.

Hi;

I had a Pathfinder in my last boat. It was old....very old, with lots of hours but I found it to be very reliable, easy to maintain, and has excellent support from the Pathfinder Service Club. There's a few hundred $$$ fee to join but once you do, they're only a phone call or email away and provide a very high standard of support should you have any problems.

Find them at http://www.pathfindermarine.com

Thistle was our path as well but with a C&C27 in between. 17-27-37... and then we stopped.
