Hi All,
I am a long time sailor that is without a boat at the this time. I just sold my Dyer 29 power boat which I loved but was to small for us. I want to get back into a crusing sailboat and I have always loved the lines of the Tartans. I would like to charter one first to see if it wil fit our needs. I live in lower NY close to Ct. but would travel as far as Mass to charter.
Thanks, Joe H Smile Smile

Welcome, and good luck in your quest. I've never seen a Tartan for charter and with the age of our classic model, I imagine it's even tougher to find.

Maybe you'll find someone here from the East coast that would do a private deal. We have lots of members in the Chesapeake Bay. You might have more of a chance if you extend your search out that way.

The Chesapeake works, Ive sailed there many times before. A question for you, I see that you have the full keel version how does that sail compaired to the centerboard version and what is the differance in draft?
Thanks Joe H

Full fin draws 6' 7". Clearly she's heavier and stands a bit firmer to the heavy weather. She's slower (much) in light winds, but in the heavy she holds her own with the sleeker, less comfortable hulls. If I had to guess, I'd say over 15-20kts, the fin has the edge. The c/b version I skippered three time had a lessor engine than our W50 so I can't really compare the maneuvering. I'd imagine c/b would show more windage though. (i.e. Takes less wind to push them sideways when docking)

So any charitable Bay sailors out there? Come to think of it... I'll be in DC on Aug 28 so if any of you need crew on Sunday the 29th, I'd love to see the old stompin grounds (swampin grounds?) by boat again. Subtle... huh.
