What do you think of the T37's blue water capabilities as my wife and I are thinking of blue water sailing; not leaving out The Drake Passage and living aboard for a least 10-15 yrs. along with our Blue and Gold Macaw. What are your thoughts? Thankyou

Very capable boat...several have circumnavigated. great balast/displacement ratio.
Smaller interior compared to a modern layout. Moderate tankage....could be enhanced. Great sailing properties. Comfortable motion.

One T37 is just departing on a circumnavigation. Here's a link to their website, but there hasn't been much updating so far:

I cruise of the Oregon and Washington coast in Betty Lou, and have always felt secure, even bashing through 12 foot standing waves 8 seconds apart coming out the Straits of Juan de Fuca. Link to blog and photos:

I would probably do quite a bit of modification to go farther offshore. Many people add a inner forestay and staysail, and I've read of folks beefing up the partial bulkhead in the head, where some have reported some deformation of the hull. As much as I love the roomy cockpit, I'd be tempted to add a bridge deck, and beef up the hatches and seals to the lazerette. It would not be good to flood that space!. I need to replace an aging dodger, and may have a hard dodger fabricated for Betty Lou.
