Hi all, new to the forum. Have owned hull 272, Airborne, for about 6 years now. Looking for some advise from anyone who has had to replace the foredeck light on their Tartan. Mine is a single bulb housed on the mast about 2' above the spreaders. Cannot find a bulb (incandescent spot about 1 1/2" in dia.). Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

I'd like to know the answer to that question as well. I tried without much luck to find a replacement to match the original bulb, and then one day left it on the counter at an auto parts store and so now I don't even have the burned out bulb to compare. Looks like the PAINFUL answer is a new steaming/deck light fixture.

I've replaced the bulb many years ago and for the life of me, I can't remember the make and where I got it Confused When I'm down at the boat this weekend, I'll check my spare. I could have gotten it from Joe Palmer years ago.
P.S. Shouldn't this post be in Maintenance?

Dual purpose post. I guess I'll move it and leave a shadow topic.

Hello Rich and others - I have a bulb for you. I have recently gone through the search process (including a couple of "almosts" that did not work), but I found a bulb that works great in the original fixture. It is the Bulbrite XP Dichroic Halogen Lamp 12 V 50 watt D.C. Bay. I understand that the "Bay" means bayonet base. The model number on the box is MR-16. You can order it on www.bulbrite.com. The item number is 644350. The bulb does not have the solid glass cover as the old one did, but the bulb came with an optional loose glass cover. It fits, and works well. I did find that my socket was corroded and needed replaced also. Hope this helps. Cheers

According to the Bulbrite.com website, they do not sell direct to consumer. I have emailed them for a local distributor (Portland, OR area).

I replaced my foredeck/steaming light with an exact replacement Forespar from West Marine. The replacement is a plastic material instead of aluminum. The deck light was inoperative when I purchased the boat the year before and the former owner said it was only the bulb. When I finally got up the nerve to have my wife winch me up the mast, I found the socket and wiring had corroded away. This of course was after I purchased a new bulb!
Anyway, the new Forespar piece uses the same bolt pattern so all I had to do was remove to old one and splice and install the new one. On my previous boat, the deck light would illuminate the entire foredeck, where this does not quite light up the area around the anchor and windless.
