I'm using a buyer's broker, our offer was made and accepted more than 30 days ago, my broker's company has all my money, still no delivery, no boat, and another week of 'should be soon'.

I'm running out of patience and time, sailing season coming to a close, family back to school and work.... rotator cuff surgery in a couple weeks and my window of opportunity to fix some needed items and winterizing is rapidly closing.

My broker tells me sellers broker was sitting on the title and didn't deliver seller's title to title company. How long does it typically take to pay any liens on a title and issue a clear title and deliver a boat? Seller is overseas and reportedly executed all needed docs almost three weeks ago.

Am I being jerked around? Is thirty days adequate time to complete a sale?

??? The only qualification(s) that I posess in this regard is having bought several boats, several airplanes, a bunch of cars, etc. I don't recall ever paying the $'s and not receiving title simultaneously. Perhaps I'm mistaken, but it would seem to me that your broker has erred in not ensuring that all necessary documents to be provided by seller are available when your funds are remitted to him. Your actions at this point are dictated by the written terms of the contractI believe that I'd become real familiar with that language.

That sure sounds funny to me. I don't think I ever got a title to my boat. I wired the guy the money and he returned an executed bill of sale which I took to the Coast Guard for documentation. I hope your money is at least in a protected escrow account or something like that.

Yes, in escrow account of established national firm... but Enron and Tyco were large international companies too large to fail, right? Yes, I feel stupid that I paid the full amount when the offer was accepted, I agree in hindsight I should have retained 90-percent until closing docs and title were straightened out and ready to sign. Never again, learn from my mistake and save a lot of anxiety. Broker says "it's a complicated transaction", sellers didn't complete necessary documents that required some back-and-forth, expecting to close today or this weekend. Thanks for responses. I'm sure I'll make a few more mistakes but hopefully learn from mistakes of others first.

Finally, after a year of research, two months of negotiations, we have a clear title and our purchase is complete, proud owners of a 'new' 79 Tartan 37 deep fin keel hull #135. She is such a beautiful boat, feels like falling in love again.
