So the plan is to sail her home to lake Ponchartrain La from Kemah Tx.
Originally we planned on taking the ICW, but have come around to the idea that if we have a good weather window, we'll go the gulf route. We're targeting the week of Dec.29-Jan.3 for the shove off. My main concern is the night sailing with all of the oil and gas structures, I've been told that some of the structures are not lit, but that they are mostly within 30 miles of shore, so we'll try to be out past that, we have radar, some moon, and I think we'll have a flir scope.

Here's to adventure!!

Congratulations and have a safe journey! It's a shame that it is not a full moon phase.

We've made the run from Freeport, TX to Seabrook Marina, New Orleans several times.

If you change your mind about the ICW, I'll be glad to give you all the advice I can about anchorages and marinas along the way.

Last year, we cut across Louisiana at Venice. Coming in Bayou Baptiste Collette and out Tiger Pass. Good water all the way. Spent the night in Cypress Cove Marina and picked up fuel before continuing on. You'll be the only sailboat in the marina.

Thanks everyone!!

Wayne, if we change back to the ICW I will, thank you!

And did you'll sail through the rigs at night?

P.S. couldn't help noticing that your join date is on my birth date!!

We did not sail at night that trip. We "island hopped" along the coast to the Atchafalaya River.

We did sail at night a few years ago and the rigs are really lit up. The Admiral tried to go between a couple of platforms that were close to each other until I pointed out the catwalk between them. Shocked After that, we gave them a wide berth. Like a friend of mine says "Sail into the dark, not the light."

Holy cow!!! We used to dive/spearfish the rigs with the catwalks across them, several had submerged catwalks that they apparently cut and dropped where they once stood, so.. it was above in below danger!!

Home to Mandeville on Wednesday 1-7-15, 9 Days.
Started out in the gulf, and weather got bad, we headed for the Sabine Pass into the ICW, so after jockeying with tugs, barges, Bridges, locks, Fog, cable ferries and only moving at day we made it!

P.S. Thank you (Active Captain)

Toast
