I have a 1980 Tartan 37 with a westerbeke 50 and I was wondering if the engine mounts need to be replaced at some point.

I replaced mine in 2011 on my '80 Tartan. They should not be sunk in below the outer frame and the elastic bushing should not be cracked. I noticed a vast improvement on the hull vibrations after they were replaced. I know there is a special procedure for uncloupling the prop shaft, replacing the motor mounts and then re-aligning the motor to the shaft. Ideally, the final alignment should be done in the water. But I didn't do any of this work because I had a job at the time.

I replaced mine last summer. I wish I had cut some 3/8" or 1/2" aluminum bar wide enough to put on the engine beds, clamped them down and drilled new mount holes through that. The factory mounts just weren't in exactly the right spot(s) and I feel my new mounts are stressed a little. But it IS a sailboat. Eh.

I reinstalled my new mounts on the Westie 50 rebuild two weeks ago. The holes all lined up perfect and the reinstall and lining up was a breeze. I still can't believe it went so easy but I guess even I get lucky sometimes.

Just replaced last season. OEM mounts had been adjusted to limits for alignment prior year, and by the end of the year they were visibly leaning to port. (41 yrs of port list can do that.)

Really smoothed out the W50.

can someone tell me where to source the mounts? Mine were last replaced in 1995 and thinking it's time.

I got mine from Hamilton Marine, but I believe they're readily available from a lot of retailers. https://shop.hamiltonmarine.com/product ... 25635.html

There are multiple choices. I suggest 1/4" aluminum bars or G10 strongly mounted/bolted on the existing beds first and work out proper placement of new mounts to avoid side stresses. Overall it isn't a huge chore. I used a scissor jack on plywood with padding to lift.

Edit: I'd go w/3/8" to 1/2" aluminum stock or G10 on the engine beds. This allows you to line up and re-drill the engine mount holes to avoid side stresses. I used the old holes and they weren't quite right. I notched out 3/8" G10 to slide under the aft mounts to get some of the thread back on the studs. The old mounts were adjusted quite high.
