For now the email from the forum doesn't work, so after you sign up and wait for the email that will never arrive, email mjcspam-t37@yahoo.com and I'll activate your account. Otherwise I do activations whenever I jump on.

By the way, it appears the 300+ posts I've made over the years are gone, but I do still have images that I posted.

Lunacy, Down2,

Preparing for the future when we will want to read "How do I fix this?" while outside internet range, I downloaded all the posts from this forum. So I have the text from 372 Lunacy198 posts. I don't know if there's a good way to get them uploaded back to the system.

FWIW, to avoid future spambots, you might want to change the email address in the first post here to something that's not so easily machine-readable. Like "mjcspam-t37 at yahoo dot com"

Mike

Its okay if you can't answer, but I have to ask: How did you download ALL the posts in this forum???

What format are they in? It must be something easy to work with in order to get a count on the number of posts...
Good work

I wrote a Python program to download the posts, save them locally, and let me search for keywords or specific authors. There's so much valuable information here that I wanted to have a backup in case we're away from the internet or something happens to the website.

What I have so far isn't perfect: it doesn't capture all the formatting, or the cute little smiley faces Smile. It has lower resolution versions of most of the attachments. I'm happy to share.

Some screenshots attached. Let me know if anyone is interested and willing to put up with my homegrown user interface.

Mike - what would be involved in downloading your interface ? I'd be interested in the collection in case something happened to the site.
Thanks - Dave

I'm skeptical that PM's are working properly; all my replies end up in "Outbox" instead of "Sent." Lunacy, I hope the recompiled version will work for you.

If you want to give it a try, the software and data from

http://12parsecs.engineering/T37.zip

It's a 4 GB file, which is mostly the attached images. Unzip the whole package, then you should be able to run T37ForumScraper.exe. It will look for all the data in the same directory where it is.

Let me know if it works. My first attempt was for Windows 10 only. I recompiled yesterday with an older version of Python so this version should work with Windows 7 or 8 also.

To download new posts, you need Firefox installed and to put your login username and password on the text file credentials.txt. Then the Scrape button will open a Firefox window and look for new messages. It's slow, especially with attached pictures that take about a minute each. So just let it run.

When I first tried, running the .exe returned an error message api-ms-win-core-path-l1-1-0.dll missing. I'll try to follow your latest post, also I see ways to resolve the error I received with WIN7 which is what I'm running.
Thanks Mike
