I want to lead my lines aft and add reefing and boomvang. To that end I need a mast collar of sorts.

Has anyone had such a beast made?
Any drawings?
Any suggestions for a fabricator?

I asked Tartan they do not have one.

Eric Freidman had Garhaur fab a mast collar for Kimberlite. It was really nice looking and I believe reasonably priced. You might give them a call.

What does it look like and cost? I am thinking of the same project for this winter.

I have Kimberlites' mast collar photo, but it's pretty grainy and very cluttered with blocks, I guess Eric ran everything aft. I believe he had Garhauer fabricate it for him.

All my aft led blocks are just grounded in the deck around the partners. I have a backing plate under there. It might be good to get the blocks closer to the mast with some sort of collar, but I really have not had a problem with my arrangement in 22 years of ownership. I believe the PO cut some of the headliner away to put in the backing plate and then covered it with some teak plywood.

I'm with Valera, I have the original set up with just the mainsheet and the boom vang led aft on turning blocks that are deck mounted and these have not had an issue, although I have upgraded the quality of the blocks over the years. If I were interested in leading everything aft, then I might re-think things but I like things simple and do not mind going to the mast to raise the main or put in a reef.

Another option depending on many lines you wish to run to the cockpit - the bolts that hold the current collar can be removed and eye bolts with a collar can be inserted. It you need more, you might be able to drill between the existing bolts. At the most, probably good for 6 lines. If you have existing turn blocks attached to the deck, this might be sufficient to handle all of your lines. I have seen the eye bolts at west marine, and I know that rigging only in Boston have them. Come if various sizes.

We have furling main and it has no collar. Just individual blocks through the cabin top, the spring loaded vertical kind. I'll search for a photo or take one when I go for my last visit this week. The lines then run to groups of horizontal blocks to turn the line back to cockpit. They are affixed to teak blocks on the cabin top on either side.

I guess today you'd go with something like this...

I just removed the original turning blocks for CB pennant and main sheet as well as the partners casting. Under the turning block's aluminum bases (they are hollow!) there was some water logged white-in-color putty like material. Old bedding compound? What is it? Mast partners collar was much cleaner. Looks like there are no under collar inserts for turning blocks, so I may have some made up. Very cost effective to fabricate multiple pieces; is anyone interested?
