I'm thinking about dressing up the way the galley doors look. I have seen pictures of these doors with caning inset in them. Does anyone out there have this done? If so, the clearance btween the sliding doors is very tight, maybe 1/4 inch and the ply might be 5/16, so there's not much thickness to work with, how is the caning attached?

Hello, I'm sitting on Daybreak now and I pulled out the sliders to check. It looks to me that the caning is attached all the way around with something like hot melt glue. It looks like thickened epoxy but it has a soft cure. The wood panels are quarter inch with the caning on the back.

Thanks Dave, I was thinking it must be glued on because staples would shoot thru the plywood. I like the look of the caning; otherwise, I was thinking of making the tracks deeper to accept a thicker door panel and going with a raised panel door to dress it up. I already replaced my sliders in the salon with raised panels and that made a huge impact.

That's not nice at all. I woke up to a temp of 7 yesterday! Any chance of a pic of this caning you speak of?

While I'll probably keep the existing sliding doors, the rails that the doors slide in are either cracked or warped. Does anyone have a source for replacement upper and lower rails? Thanks, Jay.

Jay, I replaced the plastic tracks a few years back and they were available from my local hardware store as a special order. I would go online and query "cabinet parts, sliding door hardware". A place like Woodworkers Supply might have something along those lines.

For cabinet door track replacement, try McMaster-Carr http://www.mcmaster.com/ I think you will find what you are looking for on page 2753. They are great people to deal with! I replaced my tracks last year.

The original cane on my doors are actually glued and stapled.
