On hull #253, the teak plywood used to finish the interior of the aft section of the coach top on either side of the companionway extend a couple of inches lower than the molded overhead of the adjoining areas. Has anyone trimmed this excess? It is not much of a factor on the starboard/galley side, but on the portside it does make access in and out of the pilot berth somewhat more confined. Any thoughts?

I've contemplated taking a jig saw to this peice of plywood for years as I'm tired of banging my head and scraping my back on it. But it's never gotten close to the top of the do list. Let us know how it works out.

I will be trimming mine and cutting down the instrument boxes as well - neither needs to be where they are.

Happy Sawing!

But that's where we keep our keys to the boat and the fuel/water deck fitting keys and our registration and the stereo remote... Okay... they're glorified junk drawers.

You have drawers in the bulkhead on either side of the companion way?!?!?!

When I installed the aft portlights (replacing the old instruments), I removed the old plywood, laminated strips of wood, insulated and installed tongue and groove teak around the cabin top.....This shot is centered more on the galley, but shows what I did on the aft bulkhead. Click on pic to zoom.

Thanks!
The plywood panels are extremely easy to remove....they are just held up by a few screws, no bungs to drill out. They screw into small blocks of wood that are simply glued/epoxied onto the fiberglass bulkhead. There is an air space of about an inch that is created by the blocks allowing wires to be run to the instruments mounted in this bulkhead. When installing the teak strips, I had to laminate a more elaborate ledger strip to screw to plus I insulated in any void left with rigid foam insualtion.

Tortuga, that does look great.

You've really stepped it up several notches for all of us T37 owners to aspire to. And at the risk of starting a thread none of us want, you've finished your interior wood with ... ?
