I just got a major gift ..... look at all the space the stove was taking up.

The compressed alcohol stove tried to kill me again - so I pulled it!

Any recommendations?

I don't expect to install an oven, my mate makes excellent pita-bread and I can make the galley almost 10" deeper w/o loosing space, and there will still be room for my toes.

I am contemplating a dual alcohol gimbaled burner with a "pullout" cover consisting of a ceramic cook-top w. dual electric burners - preferable induction type.

I have thought seriously about a diesel stove as well. a Wallas would fit in the same spot, but the heater would not blow into the cabin - and they are pricey. A Dickinson stove in the center of the boat would also be able to be an excellent heat source (with installed heat exchanger) but I would have to move the icebox outboard - a good thing - but a HUGE project.

Any good ideas?

Looks like you've got a nice project on your hands! I love my Shipmate propane stove/oven and wouldn't want anything else, but that being said, if you are intent on going with just a cooktop, then that means you can build a nice storage cabinet below just make sure you can gimble your new top so you can heat things up while underway.
One thing that I would stay away from is a stove/cabin heater combo because of the close proximity of the ice box/refer. Having the regular propane stove right there is bad enough, but I can imagine a heater sitting right there radiating a tremendous amount of BTU's, baking your ice Shocked

All that being said......I love the nautical look of this:

I would love to install the "Herring" from Marine Stove (com) but it's not much of a cook top, even if you can run it on french-fry oil (bio).

But I still think that you don't want a radiant heat source at that spot, though it would be awesome looking Cheers

I thought about a Wallas diesel cookstove in the galley, but the flue sticking up two feet above the coachtop right in front of my dodger was a no-go for me. Same problem with the Dickenson wall furnace. All those diesel pot-burners require a minimum flue height of 5 feet. I'll be sticking with my gimbaled Force10 propane 3-burner with oven.

I agree with the chimney issue, otherwise that would be my first choice.

There are 23" of space between the cabinets - just a smidgeon too little for anything but the conventional stuff.
