Anyone have expereience with United Marine Underwriters? Quoted rates seem reasonable but want to know about reliability.

Thanks,
Poppy

I have been using them since I purchased my Tartan 7 years ago. I have not had any claims and this year they even got me a lower quote for the same coverage with another carrier. Smile

One thing I learned only recently about boat insurance is about the difference between Actual cash value and Replacement value policies. The ACV gives you an allowance for whatever is claimed that is depreciated--so if your mast is claimed the payment would be for the depreciated present mast value, not the cost of getting your mast replaced. Maybe the rest of you already knew this, but I never paid that much attention to this. ACVs are understandably cheaper. Some brokers will not sell ACV because it results in really angry customers when they find out what the settlement is if they have a claim. When I found out I had one of these "bargain" policies, I asked the broker what it would cost to go to Replacement value---low and behold, it was the same cost but I had to ask. So I switched to Boat US.
