We just replaced our old companionway dodger with a new full dodger from Iverson's Design of Seattle. I had seen Jason Iverson's dodger designs when I had Betty Lou at Swantown Marina in Olympia, WA for the first year we owned her. I was really impressed with his designs and the quality of workmanship, and so I paid the travel costs to have him come down to Portland to build our new dodger.
I went with several more expensive options, figuring that I want the new dodger to last. The tubing is all 1.25" od stainless. The windows are of Makralon ridgid polycarbonite material, are clear as glass and will not get wavy. I added stainless side grab rails and the dodger comes standard with a full width rear grab rail. All wear points are Top Gun marine polyester. All windows have covers.
I fabricated two rails from starboard and through-bolted them to the top of the cockpit coaming so that the bottom of the dodger canvas could snap to the starboard rails and not overhang the sides of the coaming. I think it makes the dodger look more like a part of the boat, and preserves the sweeping line of the coaming.
The front and side panels all detach completely for those hot summer days.
