Does anyone have experience with davits on the T-37. We have an 8' Trinka hard dink(about 85 lbs.) that we carry on deck inverted forward of the mast. Folding pad eyes for tie downs and a teak "receiver" for the transom has made a serviceable arrangement for dinghy storage.

But, a few years ago we added a windlass and all chain rode which has the boat trimmed bow down a little. And, since we do not like to tow a dinghy much, getting the dink on and off deck with the spinnaker halyard makes for a frequent "fire drill".

I understand the seaworthiness disadvantage of davits and the problems with weight in both ends; but, am attracted to the convenience davits would offer. And, we have had Spray out of the Chesapeake Bay once in the last 15 years so offshore work will be infrequent.

Any experiences anyone can share? Brands? Installation? Problems/solutions? Thoughts?

Thanks.

Ted

I have just purchased a davit for our T37. We also sail mostly on the bay and considering the amount of overnights we do, I am looking forward to getting the dink off the foredeck. I'll be sure to post what the outcome is.

Thanks for the quick response. Will be very interested to see how this works out for you.

My main concern has always been that the stern of our boats, while beautiful, are not "full" and wondered what the dinghy behind the transom would do to trim. But, now with all chain rode, having the dinghy on davits might get my boat corrected to proper trim.

If I could figure out how to attach a jpeg file, you could look at mine. I've got an 8' hard dinghy on Forspar davits, you do miss the cute wineglass transom though.

When posting, hit the "Browse" btn and find the jpg file. It'll show up in the box just beneath that and you can select it and click "add the file". That will place it in your text box wherever you left off. You'll see it after you submit.
If you don't see this stuff, let me know and I'll verify the permissions.

You should reduce it before uploading. A full size image from a digital camera is mostly wasted when looking at it on screen. 1024 pixels should be fin but I reduce mine to 640X480 for the forum. That way it fits on everyone's screen.

I know... geek speek. But try to open it in whatever software you camera uses and look through the menu for Image-size (or scale). But heck... in the meanwhile I'll bump up the liimits. I'm not hurting for space right now.

5Meg per attachment now. That should do it.

O.K. here's the shot of Tortuga's Lie showing the dink and davit set up. I'll take a closer picture next time showing the support straps that run from the stern rail down to the coaming behind the helmsman seat. I still need to raise the stern running light.

That looks great...I was getting concerned that it would ruin the beautiful look of our boats. If we didn?t use a dink often I wouldn?t be doing this but mostly cruising on the Chesapeake I think it will make life a little easier.

What are you doing in the spring? LOL
