I would like to lead the main halyard back to the cockpit, perhaps replacing the current jib halyard which come back to the cockpit. How have others configured the blocks to make the turn at the base of the mast? Primarily where do you attach the blocks.

I looked all over but can't find a decent pic of ours. We have furling main so three lines come down the mast, hit a block that stands vertical from the deck, then cheek blocks to change direction back to the cabin. Cheek blocks are on teak bases. Our three lines are the outhaul and the two sides of a furling loop. The outhaul takes as much stress as a halyard would I imagine.

Should look the same as your main sheet, no?

And how the lines were handled in the cockpit.

I am interested in what you want to accomplish with this? Do you have an aft led cunningham? I used to have an aft led main halyard on another boat and it was a pain in the butt when you reef--you really need to hook it and adjust it at the mast. If you want to adjust main halyard tension underway, an aft led cunningham works great.
