We will be craning out for the season in a couple of weeks. Can anyone tell me what deck landmarks to use to be sure the slings are properly placed for the crane? When we craned in this past spring, the boat was on it's cradle sitting on the transport truck. There was so much going on that I forgot to look at where the slings lined up on deck. Now obviously the boat is in the water and I'll need to get them positioned properly. Thanks for your help.

Hi kgl51,

Your boat may have small, clear, ?Sling? indicators taped on the port side just under the ss rub rail. Or maybe the remnants of them. I have attached a picture of Panacea for you to gauge where to put the slings. The forward sling appears to be just aft of the port side holding tank vent. The aft appears to be about half way between the primary winch and the aft most port.

You could always drop a line in a loop under your boat and pull it aft and feel for the end of the keel.

Please be sure to use a safety line on the sling to keep them from slipping apart. Be careful not to put the sling or block under the aft most 2 ? 3 feet of the keel as it is hollow.

Mark
