Anybody recently install an Air Conditioner in their T37?
I saw a posting from 2005/6? about a 16,000 btu unit. What would be an appropriate size based on your experiences?

I don't have one on board, but I know of one that installed it under the v-berth in the cut-out section that forms a seat. This location has limited ducting capabilities. Another location is where the water pump is located under the starboard setee and route the duct work through the cabinetry above.
With a good windscoop and a good sun awning, I wouldn't bother with A/C, especially with the power and space requirements.....IMHO Very Happy

Well, the dog, kid and wife don't always see it my way.

Well, its best not to start a mutiny!!! Keeping the Admiral and crew happy should be the highest priority!!!
Will you have a generator on board for your power requirements?

I have successfully defended my position on that as a "no."

I think it would be an uneccessary complication to a Lake Erie boat....We spend most weekends day sailing from the marina. We do stay on the boat every weekend and the marina gets quite stagnant - very little breeze.

I still need to find out about the power requirments of the 'unit', after I pick a size.

Then perhaps and installed marine unit isn't required. Have you considered a stowable portable for those occasions?

Click for examples

You could probably rig the exhaust hose to a porthole size flange to be clamped in place when in use.

Down here in Florida AC is a requirement especially if you are at a marina dock in the summertime. Very hot and buggy. I had my unit compressor put on the port side of the boat behind the quarter berth in the engine compartment. It is less noisy there. If you put it under the v berth you will hear it cycle all night. I place the evaporator above the pilot berth footwell on the starboard side in with the chainplate. It does not stick out too far and is out of the way. We fed the cool air to the v berth with insulated duct work. I have pictures of the install if you want them. Let me know. it is 16000 btu.

Pictures would be great. I can't picture how it looks in the footwell of the pilot berth.

Thanks!
