Has anyone set up a ready-to-assemble emergency tiller/rudder? I am going to work on it, but I would much rather copy someone else's design than to screw it up the first two times! Wink

You should have an emergency tiller with the boat, if not it is pretty crude and is just a big piece of angle piping that slips over top of the steering. You then slip in another pipe to steer with. I think these came with the boats when new, but some people have modified them. My PO had also drilled (expoxied open spots) a hole in the top of the rudder where you could attach a rope if required.

Thanks - I do have the original emergency "pipe" extender to slip over the flange pipe that was original equipment. But my concern is what happens if the rudder is lost? I realize a windvane system would do the trick, but I am more interested in a quick (even crude) fast-to-assemble set up so that I can get another board in the water to control the boat if necessary. Any ideas out there?

Sea anchor hooked to a bridle from cleat to cleat across the transom?
Can't imagine a quick rudder replacement without carrying a lot of hardware on your transom full time.
