To any out there that have replaced your sheet winches. What is the best way to access the nuts on the port side without having to climb over the engine. Do you remove the engine control panel? If so to disconnect the engine stop cable is it best to disconnect it from the engine side or at the engine control panel? Frustrating

I managed to slide up in behind the water heater to get everything undone and redone. WITH the panel out.

I think I may have used a multi tool and cut a piece out of the teak plywood in the aft end of the quarter berth for the forward nuts. If I recall, in doing that I found that there were a couple of nuts on the old winch that were finger tight! For the aft nuts, I might have crawled up through the sail locker. I don’t think I had any success trying to go through the engine control panel but it was a long time ago.

I have an access panel at the bottom of the quarter berth and I accessed the winch from there. I also store spare ropes in that section too. I am guessing now this was added and not original.
