So at the bow and stern of our boats the wooden toe rail meets up tight with the metal plates that hold the mooring line chocks. When we're washing off the deck at the end of the day, it seems like it'd be better if there was a gap between these two items so the water can easily drain off without leaving a bunch of dirt and grit behind.

Has anybody trimmed a little off either the wood toe rail or the metal flange? Any opinion on which is easier?
