I am looking for those with recommendations for an winlass. The foredeck has never had a winlass. Problems noted in regard to installation and best equipment recommendations.

I just bought a Muir w/capstan (1250) and 150' of chain. I've done the hand over hand scrape and mudbath for decades and am not doing it any more. I'm also going to look at that washdown fitting that Richard at Newfound Marine claims is the cat's ass. I also managed to find a teak table or whatever it is salvage that gives me all the scrap I need to shape it to the deck for mounting the windlass. Among several other projects (like 5/8" hatch boards).

If I hadn't gotten the deal I did I might've gone with Lewmar, but I got it all at cost. If one watches Defender carefully, I've seen the comparable Lewmar WITH chain and rode for as little as $800 or so earlier this year. Then it goes through the roof.

I bought a BIG Kingston bow roller "suitable for Rocna up to 55#" and a Rocna 44 pounder. I'll have 2 bow rollers on the foredeck, but the CQR and the Fortress and their chain & rode is all going to get stored aft.
