My current Fall Project is rewiring the primary battery wiring systems, all new cables, Blue Seas Sub Panel, 250 A neg bus with 6 lugs, 250A neg buss with 12 #10 screws, Vectron Battery Monitor and shunt, Positive Buss 6 lug. My battery compartment had so many wires running directly to the batteries, I had fused them, but it was always a mess. With new busses, wiring is neat and orderly. Running #1 wire to everything except sub panel. I fused the positive buss with 200A Blue Seas Breaker, my starter cable, inverter, tie into this, as does Sub Panel. Have separate 100A panel fuse block for #6 wiring to Sub Panel. Also replacing my 30 yrs old windless switch with Blue Seas 150A switched breaker.
Advice from Marinehowto.com was a big help selecting tools, went with recommended FTZ
Lug Crimper Tool, saved a ton buying FTZ Lugs and Shrink Wrap Tubing from Bay State Marine Supply, also purchased many Blue Seas parts from PKY's in Annapolis. I will post some pictures when finished.

You might take a look at newwiremarine.com. I was amazed at how reasonably priced a new custom panel would be. I spent a lot of time trying to fit the standard commercial breaker panels into the space. I haven’t purchased the New Wire panel yet but that is the way I will go when I do.

A before picture of some of the mess. One battery removed, I had started with the Negative Buss's, worked to the positive side. I lost room for one Group 27 Battery due to Buss's intruding in battery space, will be adding a Group 24 for a Start battery. I have a three battery bank consisting of group 27 Wet Cells (Costco Interstates). Two located under the nav seat, One I located under the Port Salon Seating, as close to centerline of the boat as possible. The Group 24 will be my start Battery, it will also be a Costco Interstate. I have 160 W Solar charging for my house bank, or with battery switch can parallel all batterys and charge all. Thinking of upgrading Solar Controller to an MPPT Controller in the future

Also replaced ancient Windless Switch with Blue Seas 150 Amp Breaker/Switch.
Location is on the Nav Seat Compartment outside under the seat. I was thinking of an on indicator light, but since I leave it on most of the time didnt want another parasitic draw.

Also dug into my Main Nav Panel Wiring, since I am about the 5th owner, there have been numerous hands wiring things on this boat, some not the best. Found numerous shaky end terminal connections, Main Panel Feed Was loose also. Very hard to get to it to tighten up also, thats why it was most likely loose. I removed jammed terminal block and added Blue Seas dual buss for my Nav Station Power wiring.

This was a great fall project that should pay dividends in future sailing seasons. It's also amazing Blue Moon electrical systems were pretty reliable, but this has got to be better. I always dreaded changing batterys out and all the spaghetti of wires attached. I also changed out the main Engine ground wire, which had to be fatigued after 34 yrs, also when removing connection noticed it was rusty at the engine connection point. Cleaned that up. Added new main ground back to negative Buss's. All my ducks in a row for Vectron Battery Monitor to work.
Our sailing club South Bay Cruising Club has two members who are ABYC Marine Electricians and give seminars every winter. It took 4 years for it to all sink in.
I also installed a Blue Seas Four Switch pannel additional to existing for the future, and routed (2) 25' 12 ga wires back to the Quarterberth Compartment for future needed. And yes it's near my compass, I generally don't navigate with, but like it on anchor for boat orientation.

Thanks for the tip on the new Panel, will keep it in mind. Hope not to go there too soon, but it would be nice. Existing panel is so maxed out I almost cant close it.
