As part of my on-going (now 2 year) re-fit of Hooligan (hull 370) I decided I was tired of having the name repainted/touched-up on Hooligan's transom every time I hauled. I was good about keeping a wax coating on the transom but the Florida sun continually took its toll. Finally decided to replace with a Vinyl name. In order to make it easier for the sign maker, I took multiple sheets of tracing paper, taped them together so they covered the existing painted name and taped them to the transom. Then traced over the painted letters. The sign guy took a phone photo of the tracing and transferred to his computer where his design software allowed him to trace the tracing.
The sign guy gave me several "hints" to help in my install: -Need to have good access to the transom - I used my dingy -Use easy off oven cleaner to remove the paint... it worked! -Use tape on top and bottom in middle of name to hold in place -Leave tape in place and remove half of the heavy backing paper -Use blue window cleaner (i.e. Windex) to wet the back of the name -Make sure you have a "flat" edge tool to squeegee out the liquid and air pockets -Repeat for the other half of the name
The name has a clear laminate over the colored ink to protect from UV damage. Attached a few photos of the before and after ....
