Question, how many of the T37’s were built with a double spreader mast? Was this a factory option, did it have something to do with the different type keels? I yet to see pictures of any other than #481

I've never seen a T-37C with a double spreader. I know a tall rig was offered with the deep fins, but I don't think it was a double spreader. Could it be possible that you have a newer mast with a retro spreader set?

Not sure if this is a factory mast, it is also a two part mast. I have not been able to ask the PO questions. The boat was in MD and then moved to FL, old name was Tern

Yeah, I gotta think that's custom right there.

I believe some of the deep fin keel boats were supplied with a double spreader. I understand that there were something like 24 of them produced. I have owned one of them for 23 years, but mine has the traditional single spreader arrangement. So not all of them were double spreader.

Ditto Betty Lou, a deep fin keel with a single spreader rig.

There is a T37 deep keel boat in my marina. It has double spreaders.

We have Hull #486, the last T-37 built in 1989. At that time, Tartan was shifting to the T-372 but we wanted the old S&S design. We did, however, specify a Scheel Keel for the boat. The yacht was delivered with a double-spreader mast. We have sailed frequently with T-37 Hull #334 here on the Chesapeake. We find that the double spreader mast provides no advantage or disadvantage to the performance of the boat, albeit, it does prove more difficult to tune the mast as the upper out-board shrouds dead-end on the outboard end of the lower spreaders and have to be tightened or loosened from that location.

JPANEAVITT,
Have you compared mast height with the other T37?

As mentioned, when we ordered our T37 (loast S&S design built - Hull 486), Tartan had switched over to the Jackett design T 372. The T 372 was designed with a double spreader spar so that was what was installed in our new T37. I have not actually measured the height of the single spreader T37 mast on the T37 we frequently sail with but visually they appear to be of similar height. Also. the chainplate locations for the shrouds are the same as is the total number of shrouds. I assume that the double-spreader mast we have, if larger, was cut down to be the same size as the single spreader mast for which the boat was originally designed.
