There was reference to a storage shelf or other under helm seat storage capability on a recent Yahoo Tartan Owner thread, and it was posted by a T37 owner. I have no such built-in storage, but have sometimes pondered how I could gain some utilization out of that space without impeding necessary and quick access to the quadrant, pintle and (someday) belowdecks autopilot.

Did Tartan build in storage in some hull numbers, or have you or your boat's previous owners found safe and sensible ways to gain storage there? I'd love to see some pictures if anyone wants to show their set-up.

Thank you.

Yes. I am hull 373 (1982) and Tartan had storage over the quadrant under the helm seat. I had to modify it to fit my under deck autopilot, but it is there.

Mine also has a shelf over the quadrant. It is a frame with removable shelves so I can access the quadrant and autopilot. Hull #316

I have hull #191. It has a shelf which was modified for my below deck autopilot.

Use to have a great place to store my old Force 10 grill on that shelf, right next to bilge pump. What do others store back there?

I keep a spare Danforth anchor and rode(starboard side), snorkel gear(middle) and we have the propane locker on the port side. All the gear can easily be moved out of the way to access the quadrant when needed.

Lol...i took my shelf pieces out for all the work i did and was unsure of how to reinstall the pieces. I did figure it out. The shelf pieces cover the quadrant and afford lots of storage. I keep tools and sundries there...
