Hi sailbait, can't help with the varnish question as mine has many different layers !!! But,welcome to the forum, its often a bit quiet in winter. Your boat interior looks good with the extra white areas. Regards, Bruce.

Sailbait,

G'day, mate. Hope your summer is going great.

You may have a hard time matching the varnish as it's actually the wood that is different. Some of the woods used in the boat were mahogany and cherry. Having said that, we (The Admiral, actually) managed to match the color on a piece of teak plywood. She used red food coloring with a bit of yellow food coloring and managed to get the teak to match real close. The exact proportions are unknown as we went through several trials before deciding that we had a match. Test on a piece of scrap if you can.

Hope this helps.

I took samples of the varnished wood I was trying to match and unvarnished scraps to Sherwin Williams. Any good paint shop can custom tint stain to match very closely...

thanks for the response

so I have decided to use Awlgrip Awlwood MD
it has a red primer to put down or yellow or clear depending on what you might prefer
then the clear top coat supposed to be really good to use multiple coats with out sanding etc
good for inside and out, we are gonna stick with the bright glossy finish.

cheers, anyway will put up some pics of the galley when complete

Jason

Hi,

I have used Minwax "Teak Gel Stain" with great sucess, my boat is a 1979 and it is almost a perfect match.

Over the top, I've used the Minwax "Helmsman" in satin varnish. I was told they use it on the Bluenose up here on the Canadian east coast. It's been great for me seasonal sailing on Lake Ontario.

Hope it helps.
